The term, ekphrastic, applies to writing which is inspired by a work of art. Take a look at the image provided below. View it for a good three minutes (set your timer if needed, it will be longer than you think).
Notice aspects of choice of color, indication of action, memories or feelings which resonate. There is no wrong way to interpret the work. After three full minutes of study, pick up your pen and start writing.
Title your writing: Storm.
Free write for at least fifteen minutes (set your timer). Let your writing be uncensored and unrestricted but try to use the ideas which came to mind while observing the artwork.
If you feel stumped, pause and examine the artwork again.
