Sheet

Deny the morning.
It is not such a new day.

Eyes squeeze shut
as my entire being
bends and bows.

I am caressed in
the light chill of dawn.

I swear you were here,
my sweetest friend,
hands grazing skin,
fastening me here
for just a moment longer.

But what I mistake
for your embrace
is merely the unraveling
of sheet from body.
