My Song

I hope it’s
a good one.

If I am guilty
of parading around
your skull to a melody
you found captures my
grace, it is best
if it does not

I hope it causes only
a slight distraction,
a subtle pull from the
harsh reality
that is your world.

I want my song to
hum from your lips and
crack from your throat.
I want it to embolden
your steps and strengthen
your backbone.

I hope it brings
back lazy afternoons
and rain soaked kisses.
I hope my song laughs
on the patio and
dances through
the kitchen.

I hope it makes
you smile.

I hope it
is a good song
and when you hear it
you remember the melody
we made.
